THE OWNER’S MANUAL
NUESILK pieces are engineered for longevity. While silk is a delicate fibre by nature, it is also incredibly resilient when treated with understanding.
We have compiled this guide to assist you in preserving the integrity, sheen, and performance of your pieces for years to come.
I. THE RITUAL OF CARE
We recommend a cool hand wash as the gold standard for preservation. However, our 22-momme silk is durable enough for machine washing if done correctly.
- The Machine Method: Place items in a delicate wash bag. Select a cold, delicate cycle (maximum 30°C).
- The Detergent: Use only a pH-neutral liquid detergent formulated for silk or wool. Never use bleach or fabric softeners, as these break down the natural protein fibres.
Silk should be air-dried in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight, as UV rays can fade the dye and weaken the fibre over time. Do not tumble dry; heat is the enemy of silk’s natural lustre. Lay flat or hang away from direct heat sources.
Yes. To restore the "liquid" sheen after washing, iron the silk while it is still slightly damp using the lowest heat setting (or the dedicated 'Silk' setting). Ironing on the reverse side is recommended to protect the surface finish.
Silk is a natural fibre that needs to breathe. We recommend storing your pieces in the provided NUESILK archival box or a breathable cotton bag. Avoid storing in plastic containers, which can trap moisture and cause yellowing over long periods. Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
Speed is essential. Rinse the spot immediately with cool water. Do not rub the fabric aggressively, as this can damage the weave. For oil-based stains (like night creams), apply a small amount of silk detergent directly to the spot and soak. For stubborn stains, we recommend professional dry cleaning over harsh home remedies.
II. MATERIAL INTEGRITY
Momme (mm) is the standard unit used to measure silk density and weight.
- 19mm: Often considered entry-level; lighter and more prone to wear.
- 22mm (The NUESILK Standard): We selected this weight as the perfect equilibrium. It possesses higher durability and a richer drape than 19mm, yet remains breathable and light, unlike heavier 30mm weaves. It is the optimal density for sleep.
Silk is graded on a scale of A (highest) to C. Grade 6A represents the top tier of quality long, continuous strands of pure white silk. This results in a smoother surface with fewer imperfections, creating the "frictionless" glide that protects your skin and hair.
This is a common distinction. "Satin" is a type of weave, whereas "Silk" is the actual fibre. Most "Satin" pillowcases on the market are made from synthetic Polyester (plastic). NUESILK is 100% natural, protein-based, and breathable. It regulates temperature and preserves moisture, whereas synthetic satin traps heat and sweat.
Yes. Due to the structure of the sericin protein, pure mulberry silk is naturally resistant to dust mites, mould, and fungus. It is the ideal textile for those with sensitive skin, allergies, or acne-prone complexions, as it provides a clean, non-irritating surface for rest.
Our silk is finished without the use of harmful chemicals. We rely on the mechanical polishing of the fibre to achieve smoothness, rather than artificial silicone coatings that wash away over time. Our textiles are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified.
III. THE JOURNEY
Every NUESILK order is prepared and dispatched from our studio in Melbourne, Australia. We aim to dispatch all orders within 1-2 business days. International shipping times are calculated at checkout based on your location.

Due to the intimate nature of bedding and eye masks, we can only accept returns on items that are strictly unused, unwashed, and in their original archival packaging with seals intact. Returns must be initiated within 30 days of receipt.
We hold our manufacturing to a rigorous standard. However, in the unlikely event of a fault, please contact our Concierge immediately at care@nuesilk.com with your order number and photographs of the issue. We will arrange a replacement with priority.
We have eliminated single-use plastics from our packaging suite. Our signature rigid boxes are designed to be kept as permanent storage. If you choose to discard them, the box and tissue paper are fully recyclable. The mailing satchels we use are compostable.
